The project was initially aimed at the resettlement and re- education of Sudanese refugee men, primarily in the 25- 45 year old age group. The program, which commenced in Feb 2010 and has now been widened to include other Horn of Africa men, offers these men free classes in English and Computer Studies and takes place on Monday & Tuesday mornings.
These men get together at the HARDA office in Flemington on Monday and Tuesday s from 10-12.30pm for English & basic computer classes. There they have a chance to socialize as well as have classes in English & basic Computer education. The social interaction is an important part of the program allowing the men the chance to use English in day to day conversations and to meet and relax with other men in similar situations.
The intention is to keep the classes small allowing as much individual attention as possible. Teaching is provided by volunteers. We do hope to offer some other workshops in the future, if we can obtain further funding.
If you would like attend our classes or be involved and have skills teaching English or Computer skills we would love to hear from you.
